US President Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% tariffs for imports of the European Union, and claimed that the economic and political block was “formed” to screw the USA “
On Wednesday, during the first cabinet seat of his second term, Trump said that the duties against Canada and Mexico would take effect on April 2 and that his trade measures would include a tariff of 25% on goods from the EU.
“We will announce it very soon,” he said to reporters. “It will be [a] 25% [tariff] In general, and that will be with cars and all other things. “
He added: “You really took advantage of us … You don't accept our cars, you essentially do not accept our farm products. You use all possible reasons, why not. And we accept everything from you.”
The president has made it a priority to cope with a number of the nearest neighbors and trading partners of the United States as unfair trade relationships, which undercut the continuing trade deficits of the United States – in which he was more and imported as IT exports – as proof of this.
Trump claimed without quoting evidence that the EU had been formed to undermine the United States
“I love the countries of Europe. I think I'm from there a long time ago, right? … But [the] The European Union was founded to screw the United States … this is the purpose of it and they did a good job. But now I'm president, “he said.
The EU was founded after the enforcement of the Maastricht Treaty in 1993, based on the post-war feeling of the European unit and quoted that an internal market has been set up and that sustainable development is created under its goals.
Data from the European Commission show that the EU had a trade surplus of EUR 155.8 billion ($ 159.6 billion) with the United States for goods in 2023, but was a Euro-Euros deficit of 104 billion services. Machines and vehicles form most of the EU exports in the USA by the product group, followed by chemicals, other goods manufactured as well as medical and pharmaceutical products.
The tariffs for EU imports would probably lead to higher prices for US consumers, with economists warning of the potentially inflationary effects of import duties.
Europe rattled again
The European markets are on the way to a very lower open and Trump's customs threats, which previously threatens to react to the measures in a “proportional manner”.
The European Commission, the EU's executive arm, reacted to Trump's comments by promoting “firmly and immediately against unjustified obstacles to free and fair trade, even if tariffs are used to question legal and non -discriminatory guidelines”.

The Commission reacted to Trump's claims about the origin of the EU and found that the EU had benefited from the United States
“The European Union is the world's largest free market. And it was a blessing for the United States. By creating a large and integrated domestic market, the EU has made it easier for the costs for US exporters and harmonized standards and regulations in 27 countries.
The EU asked the United States to work with “to keep these opportunities for our employees and companies. Not against each other”.
The tariff view is not new, with Trump has already threatened the EU and Great Britain with taxes. The guide of the White House had previously signaled that a deal with Great Britain could be worked out, which has a much more balanced trade relationship with the USA
