Trump delays 50% tariffs on the EU till July ninth

President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he approved an extension of the tariff period of 50% for the European Union until July 9th.

“Today I received a call from Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, and applied for an extension of the 1st June period for the 50% tariff in terms of trade and European Union,” Trump wrote about the social truth.

“I approved the extension – July 9, 2025 – it was my privilege to do this,” he added.

Trump's post came after the Leyen had said that she had a “good call” with Trump, but needed until July 9 to “achieve good business”.

“The EU and the United States share the most consequential and closest trade relationship in the world,” she wrote about X.

“Europe is ready to drive the talks quickly and determined,” she continued.

As part of its comprehensive “mutual tariffs”, Trump imposed 20% tariffs on the EU before reducing the price for 90 days to 10% on April 9.

But Trump dropped a “straight tariff” to 50% “on the EU last week, starting on June 1, and said that the 27-nation block” was very difficult to master “.

“Our discussions with them do not go anywhere!” Trump wrote about the social truth on Friday.

He later said that before June 1st, he did not plan to conclude a contract with the EU.
