Starbase, Texas, has informed some residents that, according to a memo preserved by CNBC, “the right to continue using their property” as they could do today.
The city, in which Elon Musks SpaceX is located, is considering a new zoning regulation and a city map.
The announcement that was sent to property owners in a proposed “mixed area of use” would enable “residential, office, retail and small services”.
Starbase plans to organize a public hearing on the proposed new zoning and map for the city on June 23. The message was signed by Kent Myers, the city administrator of Starbase, who recently accepted the job, according to Valleycentral.com.
Representatives of Starbase and SpaceX did not answer on inquiries about further information on Thursday.
Starbase, a “Type C community center”, was officially founded at the beginning of this month after there was aerial and space company and defense entrepreneurs at a local election. It is now operated by officials who are SpaceX employees and former employees.
Until the beginning of this year, the population of Starbase was around 500 employees, with around 260 working directly at SpaceX, the Texas Tribune reported. Most of the other Starbase residents are relatives of SpaceX employees.
