Epic Systems, the largest provider of electronic health records (Ehr), achieved its greatest net profit in the market share of the hospital in 2024 and increases its lead over rival oracleAccording to a report by Klas Research on Wednesday.
In 2024, Epic added a total of 176 facilities and 29,399 beds, while Oracle lost 74 locations and 17,232 beds in the same period, the report said. For the first time, Oracle rejected a list of new contracts with Klas, an IT research foundation for healthcare. Klas said it appreciated Oracle's market share.
“Apart from strictly technological considerations, Epic's call for the customer partnership brought you to the fore most of the honor considerations,” the report said.
Oracle and Epic did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
Honor is digital versions of the medical history of a patient updated by doctors and nurses. The software is at the center of the modern US health system. Oracle became the second largest provider behind the privately kept EPIC in 2022 by acquiring the giant medar for medical records for around $ 28 billion.
Health organizations have “bad partnership and lack of follow-through promises” as the main concern with Oracle, said Klas. However, there is a feeling of “careful optimism”, after some of the recent technological developments by the company, including new artificial intelligence functions and the brand new Ehr Oracle, which was announced in October.
Based on the youngest comments by Oracle founder Larry Ellison, his company is in a cheap place.
In March, Ellison spent a lot of time with the topic of Fireside Chats on the company's annual Oracle Health Summit. And at Oraca's quarterly call with investors in September, Ellison said that his company is honored with AI functions such as transcription and order distribution that make it unique.
“Our user interface is so different from Epic,” he said.
In a blog post in May in May, Ken Glueck, an Executive Vice President of Oracle, followed Epic and described founders and CEO Judy Faulkner as the “greatest obstacle to Ehr -Interoperability”, a term how different software systems exchange information.
But Oracle's honorary software has been affected by failures and rocky deprivation in recent years.
Oracle Engineers incorrectly caused a five -day software failure in several hospitals for health systems that have just been cleared this week. The facilities had to activate downtime procedures and temporarily return to paper -based patient files.
“In the past ten years, EPIC has been the only provider that was selected by large health systems that have made honor decisions, which led to their consistent market share,” the Klas report said.
