In a shocking step, CBS announced that in May 2026 it would be canceled late with Stephen Colbert and ended the television business completely at night.
Colbert told his audience when she recorded on Thursday:
Our last season will be next year. The network will end our show in May. It is the end of 'The Late Show' on CBS. Everything just goes away.
I want to say that the people of CBS were great partners. I am so grateful to the Tiffany network that I gave this chair and this beautiful theater at home. And of course I am grateful to you, the audience that came to us around the world every evening here, out there.
The message is not a complete shock because the Ellison brothers take over from Trump-Allied CBS, and one of their goals is to remove Trump critics from the network.
A few weeks ago it was speculated for the first time that both Stephen Colbert could be pushed out of the air at CBS and Jon Stewart in the Ellison ownership of the Daily Show. It was seen that Colbert was canceled because the show is usually the highest rating in the late night and CBS had to struggle for decades in the late night until David Letterman moved from NBC.
The effects of the Trump on the media are very real. Since Trump returned to office, critics of his administration have been removed from the mainstream media.
If Colbert wants to continue his late -evening show if the decision to pick it up was only around the business, networks would stumble across itself to sign it.
Where Colbert ends next, as a test for the willingness of the media should be seen to stand against Trump.
When Stephen Colbert quickly finds a new top -class home, it is a hopeful sign. If not, Colbert's loss will reflect the full cave of the mainstream media for Trump.
