Ferraris are becoming increasingly popular with younger buyers, and the CEO of the luxury car manufacturer shows that 40% of new buyers are now under 40 years.
This reflects a significant upswing from a little more than 18 months ago when Ferrari's boss said the number was 30%.
“40% of new customers are under 40,” said Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari, to CNBC on the edge of Converge Live in Singapore.
“I don't know for other brands, but for us it is a performance that is thanks to our team,” he added.
The manufacturer based in Maranello, Italy, is known for containing the production of its cars closely and wants to maintain the promise of the brand for exclusivity. In fact, almost three quarters of all Ferraris were sold to existing customers last year.
As is well known, the founder Enzo Ferrari once said that the company “would always deliver a car less than the market requirements”.
During a Fireside chat at Converge Live of potential buyers, Vigna divided a few examples that call up the company to accelerate production. However, he insisted that the waiting time of the two years was an essential part of what he described as “very pleasant” experience.
“A customer at the age of 78 had to buy a Ferrari and he said: 'Look, I can hardly wait, two years.' I said, “This is a motivation,” Vigna told Robert Frank from CNBC on Thursday.
“There is another man, younger, 37, and he said: 'When I am older, I would like to get the car before I'm 40.' I said, “Don't worry, you will get it if you are 39,” he added.
EV start
With a view to the future, Vigna said that Ferrari will fall by the wayside on October 9 to roll the first fully electrical vehicle.
The upcoming EV model, which is manufactured in Italy, is one of six new models that the company unveiled this year.
Vigna said that the converged live about the potential demand for a purely electric ferrari: “I think this is one of the decisions that we are more proud of, because during the last capital market day we said as a company that we will make three types of cars. The traditional burn, the hybrid, will also be electrically.”
Vigna added that some customers never buy an electric ferrari, other potential buyers have stated that they will only take an EV.
