Senator Bernie Sanders fought against the impending fights Billionaire oligarchy with A National tour. Sen. Sanders has also campaigned strongly to support Ukraine. On Monday, Sanders made a statement on this front that wrote back against Trump's Pro-Putin propaganda.
Sen. Sanders said:
Donald Trump's attacks on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are a gift to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump divides western alliance and undermines the defense of Ukraine against the invasion of Russia. His actions can extend the war by convincing Putin that he can manipulate Trump into a deal with concessions that he could not win on the battlefield.
Trump is against Vladimir Putin – so who is Putin?
Putin is a former Soviet spy who spent 16 years in the KGB, where he learned to manipulate people by playing on their ego, greed and fears. After the end of the Cold War, Putin was appointed head of the FSB, Russia's post-KGB secret service agency. In 1999 Putin was appointed Prime Minister and became President when former President Jelzin unexpectedly resigned. Putin has ruled Russia since then.
At the center of Putin's rule there are two forces: corruption and violence.
As the new leader Putin, who is now one of the richest people on earth, consolidated power at home by having power in the mighty oligarchs of Russia. He offered them a simple deal: if they grant him absolute power and shared the prey, he would let them steal as much as they wanted from the Russian people. The result: While the vast majority of the Russian population is fighting economically, Putin and his mitoligarches cut trillion dollars in offshore tax haven. Putin crushed the short movement of Russia towards democracy. He eliminated rivals, fell on freedom of speech and strangled the free media. Political dissidents, investigative journalists and opposition leaders appeared dead.
Today, 26 years after his power, Putin is the absolute ruler of Russia. The Russian elections are obviously fraudulent and Putin's lackeys hardly hide their ballot papers. In the last false elections, Putin won 88 percent of the “votes” against carefully examined opposition candidates.
This is Putin's Russia. There is no freedom of speech. Protests are violently suppressed. Tens of thousands of people are detained because they speak against his rule. The courageous and best -known dissidents – people like Alexei Navalny, Boris Nemtsov and Sergei Magnitsky – are immediately murdered. And the billionaire oligarches are getting even richer.
This is the leader Trump defended and admired.
