According to a new ranking from job search site Indeed, the healthcare sector will offer many of the best employment opportunities for workers in 2025 due to factors such as high labor demand and high pay.
Healthcare professions make up six of the top 25 jobs in 2025, according to Indeed: veterinarian (No. 1), doctor (No. 3), clinical psychologist (No. 8), radiologist (No. 14), registered nurse (No. 18) and head of the clinical services (No. 22).
That's the highest share of top jobs compared to any other industry, and healthcare dominated the list for the second year in a row.
Indeed's analysis looked at jobs that met three criteria: a minimum salary of $75,000 per year, growth in job postings on the site of at least 20% over the last three years, and offering remote or hybrid roles for at least 5% of the job advertisements. Jobs are sorted by their share of job postings on Indeed.
Health care has seen “extremely, extremely rapid” job growth, said Julia Pollak, chief economist at ZipRecruiter.
“It’s just relentless,” Pollak said. “It’s extremely robust and consistent, and we don’t see any slowdown at all.”
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. economy added 902,000 jobs in health care and social assistance in 2024 – more than double the closest competitor, government, which added 480,000 jobs.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from 2023 to 2033, total employment in health care occupations will grow “much faster than the average” for all U.S. jobs.
Extensive employment opportunities in the industry arise from many factors, said Jennifer Herrity, a career expert at Indeed.
For example, an aging U.S. population increases the need for health care; Retirements of healthcare workers have created shortages in some areas; and health care jobs are at lower risk of being replaced by artificial intelligence than jobs in other industries, such as software developers and engineers, Herrity said.
“Surprisingly high” salaries, high barrier to entry
Strong demand for workers has contributed to many health care jobs being “surprisingly well paid,” Pollak said.
Radiologists, for example, earn an average annual salary of about $385,000, the highest-paying job on Indeed's list. The typical doctor earns $225,000 per year, the second-highest salary of the group.
“High salaries and a long history of stability make healthcare a highly attractive field, albeit with a high barrier to entry, especially for careers like radiology that require at least 13 years of schooling,” Indeed wrote of its 2025 list.

However, the new administration of President-elect Donald Trump could lead to upheaval in the healthcare sector.
For example, Trump and his Republican allies could cut federal spending on Medicaid or phase out Affordable Care Act subsidies to raise money for other policy priorities such as tax cuts, which could reduce demand for health care.
Conversely, mass deportations could exacerbate labor shortages and lead to higher wages. According to the Migration Policy Institute, immigrants made up 18% of the healthcare workforce in 2021.
Job seekers hoping to “take advantage of high-paying, fast-growing jobs without making a long-term investment in education” may want to look outside the healthcare sector for a career like sales representative, Indeed says. Many companies hiring salespeople may consider applicants with a high school diploma and the right mix of skills, it said. According to Indeed, sales reps earn an average of $182,000 annually.
