Netflix and Comcast are among the many firms donating to LA wildfire reduction

As Los Angeles continues to battle wildfires that have destroyed parts of the city and killed at least 24 people, companies are pledging millions of dollars in donations to support the relief effort.

On Monday, Netflix And Comcast Each announced $10 million in donations, divided among groups such as the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, World Central Kitchen and the American Red Cross. Both companies also said they would support employees directly affected by the fires.

“The next few years will be a time of rebuilding for many of us, requiring creativity, vision, determination and perseverance. When you look at some of the hardest hit neighborhoods, it's hard to imagine rebuilding – but we will, and this is what we will do. “We will come back stronger than before,” wrote Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos.

Comcast is the parent company of NBCUniversal, which has a large presence in Los Angeles with its studios.

“We express our deep appreciation to first responders for their tireless and courageous efforts,” Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts said in the announcement.

Other media and entertainment companies, many of which are prominent in the Los Angeles area, had previously pledged to donate to relief efforts. The Walt Disney Company announced Saturday that it is committing $15 million toward firefighting and reconstruction efforts. Fox News reported that its parent company Fox Corporationdonated $1 million to the American Red Cross.

gaming platform FanDuel and its parent company, Flutter entertainmentThey announced they donated $250,000 to the disaster relief organization Americares and the LA Fire Department Foundation.

The NFL – which moved a playoff game from SoFi Stadium in suburban Los Angeles to State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona because of the fires – said its teams and ownership groups would collectively commit $5 million to relief efforts. Twelve Los Angeles sports teams, including the Lakers and Dodgers, independently announced donations of more than $8 million to fire relief groups.

grocery store Hook And Walmart has pledged $1 million and $2.5 million, respectively, to relief efforts. Health insurer Anthem Blue Cross announced a $10 million donation.

Reuters reported this on Monday JPMorgan Chase And Bank of America are also offering payment relief to mortgage customers affected by the wildfires.

Hollywood stars and entertainment figures have also declared that they are supporting the fire aid financially.

Los Angeles-based actress Jamie Lee Curtis announced on Instagram that her family had donated $1 million to relief funds, while singer Beyoncé's BeyGood Foundation gave $2.5 million to her own fire relief fund. Socialist Paris Hilton said she would launch an emergency fund to support displaced families and donated $200,000, while actress Halle Berry said she had donated clothing to victims of the fires.
