Des Moines Register ought to snicker at Trump's menace to sue
Trump is now threatening to sue the Des Moines Register and the former pollster over their inaccurate Iowa poll. The newspaper should dare to sue Trump and laugh at his threat.

Trump
said in conversation with reporters:
I have a few other things I'm going to do. As an example, let's say: I don't do this because I want to, but because I feel like I'm obligated to do it. I'm going to make a case against the people of Iowa, their newspaper, which had a very good pollster who always proved me right.
And then right before the election, she said I was going to lose by three or four points, and it became the biggest story in the world because I was going to win Iowa by 20 points. The farmers love me and I love the farmers. And it was interesting how she did it. She brought it down two weeks ago.
She said I would only win by four. That was a big story. But that was good because she brought the score down from 22 to four or whatever the number was lowered. At the top. At the top. Easy win. I never thought I would go there. I respect her. I love her.
These are the deranged ramblings of a person who has lost touch with reality. Of course Trump will file the lawsuit, because the purpose of the lawsuit is not to win, but to stop pollsters from publishing bad news for Trump.
Since arriving on the national political stage, Trump's goal has been to control news coverage, which means controlling everything, including public opinion polls. Trump is trying to scare off all pollsters by releasing polls showing his unpopularity.
The right response from The Des Moines Register is to do the opposite of what Disney and ABC did with the defamation lawsuit and ask Trump to sue. The newspaper should be looking forward to the lawsuit because it will be laughed out of court.
Trump is trying to gain control of the media. The Des Moines Register can stand up for a free press by not repeating ABC's mistake.
