Amazon The checkout feature experienced technical issues on Friday, preventing customers from completing purchases. The e-commerce site displayed error messages with photos of dogs during the outage while people posted about it on social media.

Amazon relies on its own data center infrastructure to run its website, but the company's Amazon Web Services division reported no technical issues while the checkout feature was down. AWS outages can cause problems across the internet because so many companies rely on the market-leading public cloud.

An Amazon spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Ahead of the long weekend in the US, Amazon has started offering discounts on products as part of a Labor Day sale. However, due to the outage, people were unable to purchase discounted products, as some people on social network X noticed.

X's Amazon Help account responded with a recommendation to contact the company.

Amazon has warned investors that technical glitches could lead to lost sales and a poorer perception of the company's products and services. Sales in the second quarter were at a healthy level at nearly $148 billion.
