President Joe Biden withdraws from the election
On Sunday, July 21, President Biden officially announced his decision to withdraw from the race for re-election.
The politician confirmed that he will not be on the Democratic ticket in 2024 and shared the news in a detailed statement on X (formerly Twitter).
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve you as President. And while I intend to run for re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country that I step down and focus solely on performing my duties as President for the remainder of my term. I will speak to the nation in more detail about my decision later this week,” Biden wrote.
Biden also thanked the American people for their support during his presidency and expressed his gratitude to Vice President Kamala Harris for her crucial role at his side.
“At this point, I want to express my deepest gratitude to all those who worked so hard for my re-election. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all of this work. And I want to express my deepest appreciation to the American people for the trust they have placed in me. I believe today what I have always believed: that there is nothing America cannot do – if we do it together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America,” Biden continued.
CNBC reports that Biden's decision follows increasing pressure from Democrats as well as celebrities as follows George Clooney and urged him to step aside and make way for a new candidate to challenge the Republicans. Donald Trump.
