Everywhere the fans looked, a star could be seen on the red-beige carpet of the Met Gala 2021 – but not these stars.
After an unexpected two-year wait sparked by the coronavirus pandemic, the annual Met Gala returned to New York City on Monday, September 13. True to the night’s motto, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” celebrity guests were sprayed up and down the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute with bright reds and other allusions to the motif as they made their way to the big event . Kim Kardashian was faceless. Frank Ocean was carrying a robotic alien baby. There was a lot to be gained.
Still, in the sea of sartorial feast for the eyes, carried by Normani, Regina King, Gabrielle Union and many, many more, some stars nowhere to be found. We’re talking about Met Gala staples like zendaya, Katy Perry and Kylie Jenner. Or resident dream boat, Don’t Worry Darling’s Harry Styles. We were indeed a little concerned.
