MP Mark Green, R-Tennes, announced his official resignation from the congress on Friday, a step that only one who, at least for the time being, was able to reduce the already close majority of Republicans in the house.

“To my voters in the 7th district of Tennessee – thank you, the trust they put in me is humble.

With his resignation, the Republicans can be traced back to a majority of 219-212 in the house, at least until his seat in the solid red district is filled.

His resignation will be effective on July 20.

Green's resignation is a blow for the spokesman Mike Johnson in the lower chamber, a fact that was strongly exhibited this week when he tried to pass President Donald Trump's “big, beautiful bill”.

Johnson fought to merge his conference for the Megabill, and the close majority gave him little scope for defects. With the resignation of Green, Johnsons could take an even more challenging path.

Green, chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, said he returned to the private sector to found his own company, but did not give any details about the business.

“Although I can't give the details here, I will do something specifically to help America compete against the KPCH [Chinese Communist Party]But this time in business, “said Green in a video on X.

Green was chosen for the congress in 2018, the successor to Sen. Marsha Blackburn.
