Air India Boeing Plane with 242 on board accidents in Ahmedabad in Gujarat
An Air India Boeing Dreamliner aircraft with 242 passengers and crew on board crashed into West Indies shortly after the start of Ahmedabad, said the local officials and the airline on Thursday.
“The injured will be brought to the next hospitals,” Air India said in one post on X.
“With profound grief I confirm that Air India Flight, AI 171, who operated Ahmedabad London Gatwick, was now involved in a tragic accident,” said Air India Chairman N Chandraskaran.
The cause of the crash was not immediately known and was able to take months to determine. Under international protocols during the accidents, the country in which the incident took place will lead the investigation together with the officials, the manufacturer of the aircraft and its engines and others.
The plane was bound to London Gatwick Airport.
The flight was operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a best -selling wide body aircraft for longer distances. The aircraft was delivered to Air India in 2014, according to Flightradar24.
The first flight path data “show that the aircraft has reached a maximum barometric height of 625 feet (airport height is about 200 feet), and then it began to get off with a vertical speed of -475 feet per minute,” said Flightradar to X.
“We are aware of the first reports and are working to collect further information,” said Boeing in a statement.
Flights at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, a large airport in the region, were temporarily suspended after the incident, a spokesman for the airport said.
“I am deeply sad due to the accident of the aircraft crash Air India in Ahmedabad. I have instructed the civil servants to take immediate rescue and auxiliary measures in the accident and to take precautions for the immediate treatment of the injured passengers in a war discovery,” said after a translation by Gujarat Prime Minister Bhupendra Patel.
CNBC has contacted the local police and the Indian Directorate General for Civil Aviation.
“Rescue teams have been mobilized and all efforts are made to ensure that medical help and relief goods are brought to the site. My thoughts and prayers are on board and their families,” said Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, India's Minister of Aviation, in one position on X.
The incident remained in markets, whereby Boeing's shares in the Premarket trade had dropped by more than 7%.
The incident occurred shortly before the top -class commercial event events in Paris Air Show for next week, in which both Boeing and Rival Airbus announce hundreds of aircraft orders.
Boeing has also worked on turning a corner from a long -term safety and quality crises, and has made progress, although on Thursday it was unclear whether a problem with aircraft quality in Air India crash was played.
This is a developing story and will be updated shortly.
