The Federal Communications Commission alerted the Walt Disney Company and his ABC unit that it will begin an investigation of the diversity, the capital and inclusion efforts of the media giant.
The FCC, the agency, which regulates the media and telecommunications industry, said in a letter on Friday that “she wanted to make sure that Disney and ABC do not violate FCC regulations for the Equal Employment opportunities by promoting local forms of the DEI discrimination”.
“We check the letter from the Federal Communications Commission and look forward to working with the Commission to answer his questions,” a spokesman for Disney told CNBC.
The chairman of the FCC, Brendan Carr, who was recently appointed by President Donald Trump, began a similar investigation in Comcast and NBCuniversal in early February. After Trump has signed an executive order to end the DEI practices at US companies in January. The order calls on each federal authority to identify “up to nine potential investigations for civil compliance investigations” among listed companies as well as non -profit organizations and other institutions.
“For decades, Disney focused on the selection of cash and programming successes,” Carr wrote in the letter to CEO Bob Iger. “But then something changed. Disney has now been involved in rounds of controversy for his policy.”
An FCC spokesman did not comment on the letter.
