Nvidia to element Vera Rubin Chips on the GTC convention

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is expected to announce on Tuesday at the company's annual GTC conference on Rubin, the next AI graphics processor of the chipmaker.
While other technology companies usually name their products with combinations of unfathomable letters and numbers, most of the recent GPU architectures of Nvidia were named after famous scientists of women.
After Vera Rubin, an American astronomer, Nvidia calls his next critical AI chip platform.
The company has never explained its name convention and did not emphasize the aspect of the diversity of its decisions, but rather emphasize the chip names of Nvidia that highlight women and minority scientists, are one of the most visible efforts, the diversity in the tech industry at a time when diversity, equity and inclusion or dei, initiatives are beaten by the Trump management.

Before the Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang reveals a new architecture, he usually gives a broadcast biography of the scientist after which he is named.
“I would like to introduce you to a very, very large GPU, which is named after David Blackwell, mathematician, game theorist,” said Huang at the GTC conference of last year. “We thought it was a perfect name.”
Rubin is a suitable name for Nvidia's next chip, which comes when the company tries to consolidate the profits that it has achieved as a leading provider of AI hardware in recent years. “Vera” will refer to the next generation of Nvidia's central processor, and “Rubin” will refer to Nvidia's new GPU.

Rubin was born in Philadelphia in 1928. He studied Deep Space and worked with other scientists to develop better telescopes and instruments that could collect more detailed data about the universe. According to a Nova documentary, she began to observe Andromeda galaxy in 1968 and collect the data that would improve the understanding of science for our universe.
Her main claim for fame came after she had observed how quickly galaxies turn.
“The assumption was that the stars near the middle of a galaxy circled very quickly and the stars would go very slowly from the outside,” said Rubin in 1987.
But Rubin realized that she found that external stars moved quickly, contrary to expectations. They did not flew out of orbit, which meant that more mass scientists did not observe – which confirmed the concept of dark matter.
She was celebrated during his lifetime, published over 100 papers and had three advanced degrees, but she was still discrimination because of her gender. At the beginning of her career, Rubin was not allowed to collect her own data, and some observatories did not allow women, according to the documentary.
Rubin died in 2016. In 2019, Vera C. Rubin Observatory, a state -of -the -art telescope in Chile, was named after her. According to Propublica, a biography on the website of the observatory financed by the federal financing was processed at the beginning of this year to remove details on their advocacy for women in science.
“I hope you will love your work because I love to do astronomy,” said Rubin in 1996 in a speech.
Rubin is not the first woman to be honored with a nvidia chip named after her.
Before Blackwell, who had taken the first black American to the National Academy of Sciences, was Nvidia's most advanced KI chip family, who was named after the American computer scientist Grace Hopper, who shaped the term “bug” for computer disorders. In 2022, Nvidia released his “Ada Lovelace” scorchitecture, named after the British mathematician, who performed pioneering work in the 19th century.
The scientists used to be a secondary name convention, which met the actual product name in the background and mainly appeared in marketing copies. NVIDIA users often referred to the “H100” chip or marketing names for consumer graphics cards such as GeForce RTX 3090.
But last year Huang emphasized that Blackwell was not a single chip, it was a technology platform, and Nvidia began to refer to all AI products of the company's latest generation such as its GB200 chip and DGX server racks.
Keep dynamics running
Now investors and analysts are pursuing how many “hopper” are used, and large companies brag about having early access to “Blackwell”.
For Nvidia it is crucial that Rubin achieves the same familiarity in the last name as Hopper and Blackwell.
The company's turnover in its 2025 financial year has more than doubled thanks to the permanent sales for the company's Hopper chips and the early demand for the company's Blackwell chips.
In order to be able to increase growth, Nvidia must provide a next generation chip that justifies its costs and improves speeds, energy efficiency and ownership costs of the previous generation.
According to an investor presentation last autumn, the company targeted an introduction of Vera chips in 2026. In addition to Vera Rubin, NVIDIA is expected that Blackwell Ultra, an updated version of his Blackwell chips, expect the analysts to expect the company to be sold later this year.

The keynote from Tuesday will also be a test of the relatively new release cadence of NVIDIA, where it endeavors to reveal new chips every year.
