Simone Biles thanks the college for letting her practice throughout the 2020 Olympics

Juntendo University’s gym will always have a special place in Simone Biles‘ Heart.

The 24-year-old gymnast trained there privately after withdrawing from the women’s gymnastics team final at the 2020 Olympic Games.

“I will forever be grateful to Junetendo that I can train separately to try and regain my skills,” she tweeted on August 4th. “The Japanese are some of the, if not the cutest, people I have ever met.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, the university professor Kazuhiro Aoki received a call on July 28th asking if Biles could practice away from the spotlight at school.

“This is a complicated business,” he was told in the publication. “But this is for Biles.”

The call reportedly came 12 hours after Biles completed her jump exercise and removed herself from the women’s gymnastics team final – citing a case of “twisties” or disorientation in the air and the need to focus on her mental health as reasons for focus on the retreat. The American women’s gymnastics team won the silver medal.
