Alaska Airlines Plans to start its first flights to Europe with the non -stop service to Rome from Seattle to Rome.

The new route of the carrier in Seattle is made possible by the takeover of Hawaiian Airlines and the fleet of long-distance jets-in-IM last year.

The flights start next May and will be offered for sale next autumn, said Alaska on Tuesday. The fourth service will use Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Jets, which are in the fleet of the combined company after the merger.

Alaska plans to add a variety of long-distance international destinations from Seattle by the end of the decade.

“We are serious to build a global goal from Seattle and we will serve the most important demand markets,” said Andrew Harrison, Chief Commercial Officer from Alaska.

Alaska's managers said that they would like to expand worldwide and added on Tuesday that many members of the airline's kilometer loyalty program requested the Rome service from his hub in Seattle.

Italy has remained a popular destination, which has caused much larger competitors as delta And United There, increase the service, even with new non -stops to Sicily and smaller cities on the mainland.

Alaska started service at Narita International Airport in Tokyo last month and plans to start Seoul in September. Harrison said that Tokyo's flights are about 80% full and added that he would expect the flights to increase the freight income to the two Asian capitals.

In order to operate the routes, the airline needs the approval of the Federal Aviation Administration to have the combined fleet of Hawaiian in a single operating certificate that Alaska expected in the fourth quarter.
