Why TikTok is banned from Home telephones and gadgets

TikTok’s term in the House of Representatives has ended.

Members and staffers of the House of Representatives learned Dec. 27 that they are required to remove the government-issued app from their mobile devices, according to NBC News. And from that point on, they are no longer allowed to download TikTok on any mobile device given by House.

The ban was delivered by email from the Chief Administrative Officer Catherine L. Szpindor.

Why do members have to swipe the app? A memo obtained by NBC News explained that the Office of Cybersecurity had labeled the popular video platform as “high risk” for a number of potential security issues.

And removing TikTok from home devices aren’t the only phones prompted to delete the app. The Consolidated Appropriations Act 2023 requires law enforcement agencies to remove TikTok and all other apps developed by ByteDance Limited – a Chinese tech company – from devices.
