What to see this weekend: Our high binge picks for April 24-25

When you need a break from observing the office over and over again: Look, we always enjoy our time in Scranton, but can we interest you in a trip to Rutherford Falls? The current new series follows two lifelong best friends, Nathan Rutherford (Ed Helms) and Reagan Wells (Jana Schmieding) who are at a crossroads when their sleepy town receives an unexpected wake-up call. Co-created by Helms and Mike Schur of The Office, Rutherford Falls will have a heavy focus on the city’s Native American community as it engages with its own history and a debate about moving a statue of one of its historical figures.

In front of and behind the camera, the comedy is a major breakthrough for the representation of the natives on television: Schmieding (Cheyenne River Lakota Sioux) and Michael Greyeyes (Nêhiyaw of Muskeg Lake Cree Nation) star and there are five native writers on the team including Ornelas (Navajo), Bobby Wilson (Sisseton-Wahpeton Dakota), Tai Leclaire (Kanien’kehá: ka [Mohawk Nation]/ Mi’kmaq), Schmieding and Tazbah Chavez (Nüümü [Bishop Paiute Tribe]Diné [Navajo], San Carlos Apache).
