Two Workers Are Positioned On Administrative Depart After Cleveland Hospital By chance Provides A Transplant Affected person The Kidney Supposed For One other Affected person
You would hope that when you are admitted to a hospital, you could place your trust in the healthcare professionals to carry out their job safely and effectively. However, the attention is on one hospital in the Cleveland area after a transplant patient received a kidney intended for another patient.
According to News 5 Cleveland, on Monday officials at University Hospitals in Cleveland issued an apology after they acknowledged that one of their transplant patients received a kidney that was intended for another patient. Two employees have been placed on administrative leave as a result. They reassured the patient that accidentally received the wrong kidney is “expected to recover” and that the kidney they received is “compatible.”
On Wednesday, the news outlet reported that the mistake wasn’t noticed until the second operation.
The hospital’s spokesperson George Stamatis said in a statement, “We have offered our sincerest apologies to these patients and their families. We recognize they entrusted us with their care. The situation is entirely inconsistent with our commitment to helping patients return to health and live life to the fullest.”
The second patient that the kidney was intended for is back on the transplant list and is awaiting another organ. Officials shared that the hospital is reviewing how the mistake was made so they can prevent it from happening again in the future.
The United Network for Organ Sharing was notified after the kidney mixup was made.
