Two Atlanta cops got unpaid depart after a video confirmed Sergeant kicking spouse within the head
The Atlanta Police Department put a sergeant and an officer on unpaid leave after a video emerged showing the sergeant kicking a man in the head. The now viral video prompted Chief Rodney Bryant to investigate and investigate the conduct of all officers present at the crime scene.
According to Fox 5 Atlanta, officials responded to reports that a woman was pointing a gun at several people in Peoplestown. The footage of the incident shows the woman handcuffed to the floor before the sergeant involved kicked her.
“Looking through the video, the sergeant’s actions seem unacceptable, and we are also concerned about the apparent lack of response from another officer who was present during the incident,” a statement from the APD said in part. “It was decided to remove the sergeant and officer immediately and put the sergeant on unpaid suspension.”
The video, posted on the Atlanta Unsencored Instagram page, appears to show the woman spitting in the direction of the officer, and the officer responded by placing his foot on her face. The sergeant’s identity was not disclosed.
“The actions of the people in the video appear to be outside of our standards and training,” the department said in a statement. “However, it is important for the Office of Professional Standards to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the facts surrounding this incident. Chief Bryant will monitor the progress of this expedited investigation and review the results to determine the correct course of action. “
Atlanta NAACP Vice President Gerald Griggs is calling for the officers involved to be dismissed.
“We think the ultimate punishment should be resignation. But also the other officials who we believe should be punished severely. “
