There have been some huge wins and large issues on the 2021 Academy Awards when Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis and Andra Day left empty-handed
Roommate, after months of anticipating Hollywood’s biggest night out, the Academy Awards are officially over – and while there were definitely some notable winners filled with #BlackExcellence, there were some big snubs too. Many were shocked when Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis and Andra Day lost the Academy Awards, for which they were nominated at this year’s ceremony, within minutes.
The 2021 Oscars started on a great note: Daniel Kaluuya won the first acting award of the night and garnered his first Oscar for his role as Fred Hampton in “Judas and the Black Messiah”. The #BlackExcellence winning streak continued when Netflix ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ received an armful of Oscars for Best Hair & Makeup and Best Costume Design.
These wins were followed by Disney’s “Soul” win for “Best Animated Feature”, the audience favorite film in which Jamie Foxx voiced the main character. When it came time to announce the winner for Best Original Song, HER didn’t have to wait long to hear her name as she also received her first Oscar for the song ‘Fight For You’ by ‘Judas And The Black Messiah ‘won. ‘
Eventually, the top two acting awards were saved for the final minutes of the show – many willing to cheer Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, and Andra Day for their win … but unfortunately it wasn’t.
Chadwick, who was nominated for Best Actor for his last appearance on “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” lost to veteran actor Anthony Hopkins. In the “Best Actress” category, both Viola Davis and Andra Day lost the Oscar to Frances McDormand.
Social media had a lot to say about the Oscar snubs as Chadwick, Viola and Andra were top trending topics as soon as it became known they didn’t win.
