Serena Williams slams vicious “Sexism & Racism” Meghan Markle faces

On March 7th, after the Duchess of Sussex’s extensive interview with Oprah Winfrey aired, the tennis star used social media to support her longtime buddy. “Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life – and sets a good example – with empathy and compassion,” Serena, mother to 3 year olds Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.began her message. “She teaches me every day what it means to be really noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she has experienced.”
She said she could relate to Meghan and was expecting a little girl with her Prince Harry this summer has gone through. “I know firsthand that the institutions for sexism and racism and the media vilify women and people of skin color in order to minimize, smash and demonize us,” wrote Serena. “We must recognize our obligation to decipher malicious, unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism. The psychological consequences of systemic oppression and victimization are devastating, isolating, and all too often fatal.”
