Rachel Maddow beamed and shredded Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) for defying extended background checks after his “bipartisan” path had already failed.

Maddow said:
We have to take action. But he’s talking to the United States Senate there. Nor will Joe Manchin, the Senator from West Virginia, ask about the humiliation and what dragged him across the country in 2013. Manchin reiterated that he does not support background checks on all arms sales, which has already happened passed the house. It even went by the house with Republican support, which means Joe Manchin is to the right of the Republicans. If he alone changed his mind about it and decided it was really important to him, that would probably be enough to get this one reform over the finish line. If he changed his stance on the bill himself, if he found it, given his support for background checks and his stamp of sticking to the filibuster rule so the majority of the votes don’t even count for his own legislation, Joe Manchin holds fate in his hands.
He promised that this was a subject that moved him as a parent, as a grandparent, with tears. He promised he could do it. He could actually do it now. If he wanted to. I mean, even now that the NRA has almost dissolved into shame and bankruptcy, he’s going to do what the NRA wants instead of doing what he says he wants to do. Not even the members of the NRA do that, but Joe Manchin does. Because of this, he will personally prevent the whole country from getting any substantial relief from this issue which is still plaguing us.
It will probably almost certainly come back to what the president can do now to President Biden alone without Congress, which is not much. And that’s because the United States Senate doesn’t work, even for things that 90% or more of the country wants to do, even for things that tear our hearts apart, and even when we have to agree on something else seem the Senate doesn’t work in large part because of Democrats like Joe Manchin. For this reason, we as a country cannot do anything substantial on this issue. Though senators like Joe Manchin say it means a lot to them.
Rachel Maddow evoked Joe Manchin’s basic hypocrisy when he claimed to support expanded background checks, but it turns out that he will only support them if the bill goes its way, which is a bipartisan fantasy country that it does in the United Senate States do not exist.
Democrats don’t like it, but the truth is that the only thing separating them from Mitch McConnell, who will become Senate majority leader tomorrow, is Joe Manchin, who stays in the Democratic Party.
Maddow rightly phoned Manchin for his apparent inconsistency with gun legislation.
Does Joe Manchin really want bipartisanship or does he want Republican cover so he can keep his Senate seat in West Virginia?
It’s not good preparing America for more mass shootings and deaths in exchange for possible political survival, and it’s really something Joe Manchin needs to think about.
