Roommate, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, has reportedly decided to accept increasing calls for resignation. These calls from the likes of President Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi and New York Senators came after the results of his sexual assault investigation. According to CNN, the governor has now announced that he is “stepping aside” from his role.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Governor Andrew “took full responsibility” for his actions and also thanked the women “who have come forward with genuine complaints.”
“It is not easy to get on, but you have done yourself an important service,” said Andrew. “And you taught me and others an important lesson. Personal boundaries must be expanded and protected. “
However, the governor did not accept the results of New York Attorney General Letitia James’s investigation into sexual harassment. Exactly a week ago, Letitia revealed that the investigation concluded that Governor Andrew had molested 11 women who are current and former government employees. The harassment reportedly consisted of “unwanted groping, kissing, hugging and making inappropriate comments”.
At today’s conference, Andrew called the research “politically motivated”. According to CNN, he both denied some aspects of the findings, saying that other measures were taken out of context.
“That’s not to say there aren’t 11 women I’ve really offended,” said Governor Andrew. “There is. And for that I deeply, deeply apologize. I thought it was nice to put a hug and my arm around a co-worker while I was taking a picture, but she thought it was too direct. The resignation should take effect in two weeks. Then New York Lieutenant Gov. Kathy Hochul as his successor. The native buffalo, who won the 2014 and 2018 elections together with Governor Andrew, is set to become the first female governor of New York. Following the announcement, Kathy tweeted that she was okay with Governor Andrew’s decision.
“I agree with Governor Cuomo’s decision to resign,” wrote Kathy. “It’s the right thing and in the best interests of New Yorkers. As someone who has served in all levels of government and will be the next to succeed, I am ready to lead as the 57th Governor of New York State.
