South Korean pop star Jessica Jung is perhaps best known as a former member of the K-pop band Girls’ Generation, but now she’s in the business world as the owner of her own fashion label, Blanc & Eclare.
The 32-year-old singer and entrepreneur, calling herself an “explorer,” said the transition from entertainment to fashion was “natural,” adding that she “had a large following in the fashion world”.
With over 9.9 million Instagram followers, working as a social media influencer turned out to be a full-time engagement.
Your secret?
“You have to be real and have a character for yourself. Then there is a connection between you and your followers. That’s how it’s growing, ”she told CNBC’s Inside E-Commerce.
Jung also paid tribute to her success to her fans. “I’m very lucky because my career actually began in an era when social media was just beginning to take root. My fans and I started building it together. “
Social media influencer
Jung said it can be challenging at times, especially when looking for a break from work. “Social media is so fast moving that you just have to keep up.”
When it comes to being the face of a brand, for Jung, named Global Brand Ambassador for cosmetics company Revlon in 2020, maintaining a personal connection with his followers is crucial.
She said having a good mix of branded and personal content on social media helps.
“If I have branded content that I need to post, I’ll post that. Then I would definitely post some real daily activities and daily fashion, things that my fans and followers really want to see,” said Jung.
According to a “Social Salary Calculator” from the music licensing platform Lickd.co, social media influencers with over 100,000 followers on Instagram can usually earn over $ 4,000 per Instagram post.

Jung also has her concerns about social media.
“It can cause some uncertainty among people,” she said, referring to the “Like” button on social media platforms. “I’ve seen it happen to a lot of people around me.”
Life during the pandemic
Regarding her life during the pandemic, Jung said that her travel lifestyle has been put on hold and she now lives in South Korea.
“I used to travel all the time and I was back in Korea to just pack my things and leave. But now I’m here – full time, ”said Jung.
That change has resulted in the opening of its first Seoul flagship store in January 2021 for Blanc & Eclare, a luxury fashion brand that sells classic clothing and accessories such as sunglasses for women. She also opened her own Clareau restaurant on the second floor of the flagship store, which serves modern cuisine.
Although she can’t travel as much as before, she enjoyed being in South Korea. “I didn’t think I would like it that much, but I really love it because I didn’t know I miss my home so much. I had time to take care of myself – mentally and physically. “
Jung will release new singles throughout the year that will lead to an album, which was initially delayed due to Covid-19.
As for other projects, she confirmed to CNBC that a new season of her reality show with her sister Krystal will be airing from K-pop girl group f (x) in late September.
Jung said her book “Bright,” a sequel to her New York Times bestseller “Shine,” is due out in mid-2022.
