Rep. Cohen said when MSNBC’s Katie Phang asked him if McCarthy Tucker gave Carlson the 1/6 tapes, “The thing with Carlson, giving somebody all the tapes. Lying the Santos thing and not getting deported is all tearing down of our institutions. And that’s wrong. Putin is very much for it. But our Putin is winning this political race.”
Speaker McCarthy only cares about maintaining his power and doesn’t care if he’s helping Putin or endangering national security. It’s an open question whether Kevin McCarthy is owned only by the MAGAs or has been converted, but his actions damage the nation’s democratic institutions, provide resources for the spread of propaganda and misinformation, and contribute to dividing the country in all things Putin did hopes to achieve to weaken the United States.
Rep. Cohen was right. McCarthy’s conduct as a speaker, taken individually, is poor. Overall, they’re even worse. Kevin McCarthy’s speakership harms the nation and threatens national security.
McCarthy doesn’t have to be a Putin puppet like Marjorie Taylor Greene to help Russia. He does a lot by making sure he always puts his political needs ahead of those of the country.
