Candis Cayne is paying homage to the imprecise portrayal of trans girls on CSI

Candis Cayne is undeniably a groundbreaking actress.

The bombshell blonde made her first TV debut in 1995, but it wasn’t until she hit CSI: NY in 2007 that Cayne got her “first big role,” as she explains in an exclusive taste of E! S True Hollywood Story: Transgender Hollywood, Airing tonight (June 7th).

“It was originally for a drag performer, Britney Spears-like performance on stage and then she is killed in the men’s toilet at the stable, “says Cayne about the portrayal of a CSI murder victim.

The premise, however, did not suit Cayne, who wanted to accurately portray the trans community on screen. “I went to the headmistress and said to her, ‘Listen, I’m a trans woman and no trans woman would go to the men’s bathroom,'” recalls Cayne. “And so I said, ‘I can’t do anything that a trans person wouldn’t do on camera.'”

Thanks to Cayne’s testimony, the scene was rewritten to instead show her character being drowned in the ladies’ room.
