One Deerfield Ave. Owners Rebecca (Burnham) Stratton ’93, Poppy Doyle, and Nancy Hazen all have UMass Amherst connections: Doyle is Stratton’s mother, and Hazen has five children who graduated from the school. The shop offers fabrics, notions, quilts, quilted products, and classes.

3.Shelburne Arts Co-op, 413-625-9324. 26 Bridge St. More than 50 local artists are featured in this art gallery cooperatively owned by member artists. Alumni artists include Bonnie Bohrer ’88, Jane Chang ’04, Tucker Litchfield, John Passiglia ’98, Elizabeth Smith ’90, and Mary Seymour ’75.

5.Mary Lyon Foundation, 413-625-2555. Six Water St. In 1990, Sue Silvester ’87G initiated and later incorporated the foundation, a community-based nonprofit organization that supports all aspects of quality education in the towns of Ashfield, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Hawley, Heath, Plainfield, Rowe, and Shelburne. www.mlef.org.
6.The Tusk ‘N Rattle Café, 413-625-0200. 10 Bridge St. Co-owner Tanya Bryant ’84C has created “a vibrant subterranean spot that fuses South Indian and Nuevo

7.McCusker’s Market, 413-625-9411. Three State St. Owner Mike McCusker ’73 opened the store in 1979; it features natural gourmet foods, including a full bakery, natural vitamins, herbs, and produce.
8.Wings of Light Gallery, 413-625-0144. 20 Bridge St. Owner Andrée Clearwater ’77 specializes in angel paintings and guardian angel portraits, inspirational gifts, angel cards, books, CDs, angel votives, crystal bowls, geodes, jewelry, flutes, drums, and digeridoos.
