ON FEBRUARY 25, 2006, IN recognition of late Coach Jack Leaman’s 40-year legacy as coach, mentor, and father figure to his players, UMass Amherst will name the basketball court at the Mullins Center in his honor. This is the highest level of recognition ever bestowed upon an individual by the Department of Athletics. Future basketball teams will compete on the Jack Leaman Court and be inspired to play with the determination and drive that Coach Leaman instilled in his players. On that day at noon, before the UMass vs. Dayton game, we also hope to announce that the Leaman Legacy Fund, an endowment created to provide scholarship support for the campus’s men’s and women’s basketball programs, has reached the one million dollar mark. To find out how you can bring us closer to this landmark goal, please contact Tim Kenney, associate athletic director for Advancement, at 413-545-4284 or tkenney@admin.umass.edu.
