UMASS AMHERST ALUMNI ARE ACTIVE active and engaged from coast to coast. A number
of exciting events and outings brought alumni together to network, share experiences, or simply to have fun this past fall.
The Pioneer Valley Alumni Club honored Massachusetts State Senator Stanley C. Rosenberg ’77 as the first recipient of the Mary Killeen Bennett ’93G Alumni of the Year Award. Senator Rosenberg was elected to the state Senate in 1991 and was named President Pro Tem of the Massachusetts Senate in 2003, becoming the first senator in the state’s history to hold this leadership position. He has advocated for legislation affecting education, the environment, and health care.
Alumni and friends gathered in Memorial Hall on campus to listen to world-renowned artist Shan Shan Sheng ’87G. Sheng, an Eleanor Bateman Alumni Scholar in Residence, discussed her work and experiences creating large-scale public art projects in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and the United States.
Art was also on the minds of alumni in Los Angeles, as they participated in a Downtown Art Deco Tour and trip to the “Tutankhamen and the Golden Age of Pharaohs” exhibit at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. On the East Coast, the Cape Cod Alumni Club coordinated alumni to see the play Six Degrees of Separation by John Guare at the Cape Rep Theatre. For the sports-minded, there were many outings to minor and major league baseball, and basketball games, as well as to UMass athletics events.
There is no shortage of opportunities to connect with alumni, participate in club events, and continue to be connected with UMass Amherst. For more information on happenings in your geographic area visit our Web site at www.UMassAlumni.com. |
