We're pretty sure this charming tableau dates from
the days before waxless skis. Definitely before SUVs. A member of the
class of '38 who dropped by our office recently thinks these slope-bound
beauties are Phi Zetas. Do you recognize yourself, or a friend? Do you
still have the car? Let us know in a classnote.
It would be hard to find a more quintessentially New England pair than Mary '34 and Ellsworth "Dutch" '28 Barnard. This handsome couple might have been sculpted from the rock at High Ledges, the Shelburne Falls property which they donated to the Massachusetts Audubon Society in 1970, and at which they still summer. The property includes Dutch's boyhood home, on land farmed by the family since his great-great grandfather, Elisha, settled there in 1790. |
