The Campaign in Engineering

Dean Joseph Goldstein
A kind of "one-stop
shopping" for students excellent education, great advising, superior
placement opportunities is among his college's strengths, says
engineering dean Joseph Goldstein. At the halfway point of Campaign UMass
last year, the dean reported that engineering was halfway to its $25 million
goal, and that results were showing strongest in the area of student support.
Goldstein's other priorities are faculty development and facilities improvement.
Projects like the new lab profiled on this page, with its significant
underwriting by alumnus-owned Barker Steel, fill all three bills. A facility
embodying renewed commitment to structures research, it also provides
heady opportunities for students.
