Today, perhaps more than ever, individuals are responsible for building
and managing their own careers. No longer do most of us start working
for a company right out of school and then stay there to build a
lifelong career. In fact, most of us will have many different careers
over our lifetimes. Being successful—which to me means not only making
a living but also feeling challenged, energized, and passionate about
what you do—doesn’t just happen. It takes energy and effort.
About a year ago, the UMass Amherst Alumni Association asked its members
if they would find value in programs and services targeted at career
development. Based on the survey results (almost 3,000 of you responded),
the answer was a resounding “Yes!” In response to this feedback, an
Alumni Association task force began to develop a portfolio of programs
and services focused on helping UMass Amherst graduates to build the
skills needed to enhance their careers.
The result is a program called Alumni Career Services. Working in partnership
with university departments and regional Alumni Clubs, Alumni Career
Services will contribute to the success of our graduates by offering
resources and opportunities that will enable them to develop and continue
to cultivate their professional skills and career path. Through workshops,
seminars, and Web-based initiatives, Alumni Career Services will deliver
the information that is most requested by you—our alumni.
The Alumni Association is drawing upon its vast alumni community to
recruit experts in a variety of fields to share their knowledge and
expertise. As we move forward, Alumni Career Services will continue
to develop a wide range of offerings. Your Alumni Association is working
to meet your needs and interests by promoting connectivity, growth,
and learning. Don’t miss out—become a member and take part in all the
Alumni Association has to offer!
You were. You are. UMASS.
